Advanced users may wonder why we are putting up these pages
about FrontPage access, but we can remember back to
the days when as beginners, we didn't know "what
needed to be installed where" for software like
FrontPage to function, and so as a courtesy to beginners,
we try to be a little more verbose about these issues.
Most of the servers types on which we host are Unix
based servers, which require FrontPage Extensions
to be installed on the server you rent from us, for
you to be able to author and change pages on your
server using FrontPage. Such installations are not
difficult, and we will even do this for our customers,
if requested.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO TO MICROSOFT TO DOWNLOAD EXTENSIONS.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED IS ALREADY AVAILABLE TO INSTALL
AT YOUR CLOSERANGE SERVER. |
|
| If you
would like us to install Frontpage Extensions 2002
Extensions free of charge for you at the time you
rent your server, please let us know (however, we
will probably ask you anyway). |
|
| Should you wish to learn to install FrontPage extensions to your
server, or remove them at any time, and you are a
customer of ours, you can either call us, or follow
the instructions found at our VPS
support Page. Simply click on the "SUPPORT
SEARCH" function, and type in "FrontPage" |

| Other resources see
our Working
Solutions Software links |
or visit Microsoft's
FrontPage home page also here.
Remember that you don't need to go to Microsoft to
download extensions for your CloseRange Server. That
would only create problems (should you try to install
the MS extensions at the Microsoft site on your server
... so don't try that). IF YOU NEED HELP, just ASK.

Questions: |
| |
| Q:
Can I use FrontPage 98 on my Server? |
| A: |
|
Yes,
we haven't noted any problems doing using the
older version. However, Microsoft only supports
the last two versions of any software product,
so when starting out learning a new product,
it's probably best that you start with the most
recent version possible. If you are just learning
FrontPage, start with the most recent version.

|
| Q:
Can I work "LIVE" on the site with FrontPage |
| A: |
|
Yes,
you can either work live, or work locally and
then publish the finished pages to your web
site. If you work "live" you should
remember to publish "down" to your
local computer afterwords so that you have the
current copy of your web site on your local
computer. |
|
| |
| Q:
How do I open up a "live" FrontPage session
on my web site? |
| A: |
|
If
you have FrontPage extensions installed on
your web site, you can open up a FrontPage
session very easily.
Open FrontPage on your local computer.
On the top toll bar of FrontPage,
1. Click on "File'
2. Click "Open Web"
3. In the window called "Web Name"
type in the full URL address of your web site,
i.e.,
"http:/www.yourdomainname.com" and
then
4. click on the button called "Open"
That's all there is to opening a "live"
session.

| Q: Do
I need to use FrontPage "Publish" to upload
files? |
| A: |
|
No,
you can either copy files using telenet or FTP.
There are number of excellent FTP software packages
that are available, or you can even use your
Internet Browser to FTP files to your site.
FTP access is a simple matter of setting up
users with login and passwords, which is explained
in the user support for your server. See your
online server handbook for details. |

| |
| Q: Can
you recommend some books on Microsoft FrontPage? |
| A: |
|
Yes,
that would be easy, as there is no shortage
of good books ont he subject. The Microsoft
Press books are very good, and they can often
be purchased at the best discount from Bookpool.com,
where we think your best option for books
online may be found. Book titles to look at
from Microsoft would be the following
